CHOW NOW: White Dog Cafe

IMG_3278

After a Thanksgiving break full of delicious home-cooked meals I decided to ease myself back into the harsh reality of my dining plan by eating out one last time. So after my taxi dropped me off, I unpacked my bag and headed over to the White Dog Café on Sansom Street to have a final good meal.

The prices at White Dog can be a bit steep, but I left the bar having spent only $15—a great deal for the Koch Farm Turkey Burger and a side of butternut squash that I ordered. My burger was served on a nicely grilled brioche bun, and the meat was surprisingly juicy for ground turkey. The creamy avocado slices contrasted nicely with the crispiness of the fried shallots, and the chipotle ketchup was a pleasing variation from the usual burger toppings. But what really stood out to me was the roasted butternut squash. True to its name, it was soft as butter and came adorned with twin drizzles of pesto and some kind of maple reduction that really made the squash’s flavor pop.

So CHOW NOW at White Dog Café—whether you’re looking to escape your meal plan or not!
