Hannah’s Healthy Handbook: Tackling Healthy Eating in Houston Hall

Hey foodies,

Today I want to talk to you about some tasty, healthy options in Houston Hall. Although you may think you can only buy greasy, fried foods at Houston, I am here to prove you wrong. Surprisingly, Houston has some pretty yummy options that will keep you on that healthy lifestyle track.

One of my personal favorites is a brown rice poke bowl. Most of the sushi rolls that are placed outside of the sushi station are made out of white rice and are covered in sauces. No worries though! You can just ask the chef to prepare you a bowl or roll with brown rice. My personal fav is a brown rice bowl with salmon, tuna, and sriracha for a little extra kick!

Try to lay off the eel sauce or spicy mayo if you’re trying to keep it clean. You can also add cucumbers or avocado to your bowl to add an extra dab of freshness.

One of my other favorites is BEEFSTEAK. Yes, I know the words beef and steak are in the title, but it’s actually a vegetable-centric establishment. Beefsteak allows you to choose between many different stir-fry dishes, gazpacho, a beefsteak tomato ‘burger,’ and much more. I like to create my own bowl, choosing 5 vegetables, a type of grain (quinoa, rice, or bulgur), a customized sauce (cilantro, spicy tomato, garlic yogurt, or black bean), and unlimited toppings like seaweed salad, dried cranberries, kimchi, tomatoes, and pumpkin seeds! You truly cannot go wrong with your order. Oh, and for all you omnivores, you can add chicken sausage to your bowl as well!

Happy Houston eating!!
