<image:title>Articles - Philly Date Night Spots You Haven’t Seen on Everyone’s Instagram - First, we have Osteria, an Italian restaurant that is not underground by any means, but is less known by the Penn food scene. If you are a fan of a good free bread service, this will be a great spot for you. Osteria makes their pastas fresh in house and changes their menu frequently to feature seasonal ingredients. They have indoor dining and a beautiful outdoor garden space perfect for a spring date night, or just a night out with a group of friends.</image:title>

<image:title>Articles - Philly Date Night Spots You Haven’t Seen on Everyone’s Instagram - Another spot with a great outdoor setup is Talula’s Garden, which serves farm-to-table American cuisine. They are known for their extensive cheese selection, so if you are a lover of all things cheese (like me), this is the spot for your next date night. Each dish features the freshest ingredients in unique combinations, from their beet, orange, and whipped ricotta salad to their fresh-baked cheesy cornbread. The desserts are also not to be missed at Talula’s Garden!</image:title>

<image:title>Articles - Philly Date Night Spots You Haven’t Seen on Everyone’s Instagram - Next up is Kalaya, a trendy Thai spot in Fishtown. Kalaya is a place where you will want to share, and is perfect for both date nights and a large group of friends. Kalaya recently relocated to Fishtown, and has expanded their menu and drink selection since moving. The food is not too spicy for Thai food, so if you don’t pride yourself on your spice tolerance, you are safe here. However, the food is vibrant and flavorful. Standout dishes range from gui chai (a crispy garlic chive rice cake appetizer) to gaeng som (sour curry with poached barramundi fish, pineapple, tamarind, and jasmine rice).</image:title>

<image:title>Articles - Philly Date Night Spots You Haven’t Seen on Everyone’s Instagram - Finally, we have Double Knot. There is definitely word on the street at Penn about Double Knot, but I had to include it because their downstairs dining room is perfectly dim and intimate for a date night. Double Knot is known as a sushi restaurant, but they also have plenty of delicious non-sushi options. The edamame dumplings, tuna rice cracker, toro scallion roll, and brussels sprouts are all must-try for your next visit.</image:title>

<image:title>Articles - A Guide to a Day of Eats in D.C. - Royal Palm.</image:title>
<image:caption>Looking for an excellent way to start your day? Head to any location of Call Your Mother in D.C.! I went to the West End location, and it definitely took the award for most Instagram worthy. The Royal Palm was packed with flavor in every bite. This bagel has a lot of layers in it, so it is only right that each is given a spotlight. On an Everything bagel, the layer of plain cream cheese set a delicious, creamy base for the other ingredients. The smoked salmon had a fresh, rich flavor that really made it the star of the show. I enjoyed the use of cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onion which gave it the fresh, juicy ingredients my palate needed. The last layer of capers really was the best finishing touch - it gave just enough flavor. All in all, I highly recommend getting the Royal Palm, but there are so many different options offered at the locations. If you are a bagel enthusiast, this is the place for you!</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Doro Bet: Ethiopian Comfort Food for Everybody - Fried chicken with sides and sauces.</image:title>
<image:caption>Chef Kane recommended ordering the chicken with collard greens and mac and cheese, familiar sides for anyone who has had Southern-style fried chicken. Collard greens are also staples in Ethiopia, and this iteration was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The collard greens were my favorite part of the meal, and the slightly acidic flavor paired well with the fried chicken. The mac and cheese had the perfect amount of richness, and the bounciness of the noodles complemented the rest of the meal.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Doro Bet: Ethiopian Comfort Food for Everybody - Doro Wot.</image:title>
<image:caption>For those who want a more traditional meal, the restaurant also serves Doro Wot, a stew with chicken and mixed vegetables. Like the other dishes, the spices add a complex and satisfying flavor. The onions and tomatoes bring a lot of depth to the stew and soak up the flavors. The stew is served with injera, a popular Ethiopian flat bread. The injera at Doro Bet has a nice, bouncy texture and functions as the perfect vessel for the stew. Doro Bet is quickly becoming a gem of West Philadelphia. The atmosphere and food are unmatched, and their commitment to accessibility is truly inspiring. Chef Kane describes her restaurant “like being at home,” and the love and care she puts into her food feels like a home-cooked meal. Come to Doro Bet for delicious chicken and good vibes!</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Tale of Three Pizzas - Potato Pizza at Arizmendi’s.</image:title>
<image:caption>As a Hawaiian pizza enthusiast, I disagree with the second half of Anger’s proclamation. But I also want to defend broccoli pizza, as the pizza of the day options with unorthodox toppings are delicious. While I have indeed enjoyed broccoli (or rather broccolini) pizza before, my favorite pizza of the day is the potato pizza at the worker cooperative Arizmendi’s Bakery. Besides the potatoes, the exact toppings on the pizza vary, but there is always a flavorful garlic oil that perfectly complements the hearty potatoes. The potatoes get a bit crispy in the oven, but retain a fluffy interior that balances out the pizza’s crust. The creators of Inside Out clearly know San Francisco well; Pixar’s headquarters are right across the bay bridge. While the movie’s “Yeast of Eden” bakery may be fictional, unorthodox pizzas are certainly part of the fabric of San Francisco.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Tale of Three Pizzas - Angelo’s square pie.</image:title>
<image:caption>While these are all excellent pizza shops, the platonic ideal of pizza in Philadelphia is Angelo’s Pizzeria in South Philly. Brought to global fame (or infamy) by Barstool’s One Bite Pizza Review, Angelo’s is everything pizza should be. The classic square and circle pies are the true stars, letting the brilliance of each ingredient shine through. Fired in a wood oven, the crust has a satisfying crunch with a light, fluffy interior. The tomato sauce is rich in flavor, adding perfect sweetness to the pie. The melted, slightly crispy cheese complements the sauce, adding a welcome textural contrast to the crust. I first visited Angelo’s Pizza during fall break of my freshman year. It was a warm October day, and my friends and I had just visited the anarchist bookstore (Wooden Shoes Books). Because we had heard so much about Angelo’s, we were excited to see what all the hype was about. After picking up the pizza, we walked to nearby Cianfrani Park to eat. The sounds of birds chirping covered the park as we enjoyed the pizza. Unexpectedly, a French horn trio set up on the other side of the park. They played a joyful hymn, making the pizza-eating experience truly unique.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Tale of Three Pizzas - Slices of pizza from Pizza Suprema.</image:title>
<image:caption>For many Penn students, visiting New York always includes carefully selecting a few restaurants to visit. And while it might be tempting to go to a fancy French restaurant or the new Japanese barbeque place, classic New York food should always be on the agenda. When discussing New York’s food scene, Anthony Bourdain asks: “What do they do there that is unique to that place, that they inarguably do better than anybody else in the world?” And for New York, pizza is an essential stop on any visit. There are so many pizzerias in New York, but Pizza Suprema is an excellent option. Conveniently located a few blocks away from Penn Station and the Megabus stop, it is a satisfying meal after getting to New York. With a crunchy thin crust, tomato sauce, and elegant basil flavor, the cheese pizza will satisfy that post-journey pizza craving. The specialty pizzas are similarly delicious, with my personal favorite being “The Fig.” A white pizza featuring fig spread, bacon, and goat cheese, “The Fig” is a combination of sweet and salty that is truly unique.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - The Best Drink Customizations at Cafes in UCity - Firstly, Greenline is a wonderful option for people who want to experiment with flavours. With a huge array of syrups to choose from, they have endless possibilities. A particular favorite of mine is to order a hot chai latte with a pump of maple spice syrup. This pairing is bursting with flavour and is amazing with a cold winter day. In addition, you can elevate a matcha latte by adding a pump of the pistachio flavoured syrup, which pairs much better than the traditional hazelnut syrups that most other cafes offer. This drink is a perfect go-to for people who love nutty, rich drinks and it tastes wonderful both iced and hot. For the coffee drinkers out there, their mocha with a pump of hazelnut and rose syrup does wonders to feel rejuvenated after a long day of classes. For days where you don’t have a craving for something very sweet, a hot black coffee with a couple pumps of lavender syrup is ideal and exudes dark academia. Overall, Greenline has unique options to choose from and there are 3 different locations near Penn’s campus, so it’s a convenient choice for those with a couple hours in between classes who need a place to go sit down and study or destress.</image:title>

The atmosphere inside is very open and rustic, with natural light and gentle chatter. Food wise, UBB offers a variety of pastries as well as light meals, such as sandwiches, salads, and egg platters. Both their breakfast and lunch menus are served all day, which is perfect if you want to spend the day working away without having to worry about where to get your meals. <image:title>Articles - Rise & Grind: The Best Coffee Shops Study Spots Around Campus - Best Savory Stuff: Pret a Manger</image:title>
<image:caption>Pret is a classic coffee and lunch spot located on campus, at the Locust entrance of Huntsman Hall. Here, you can spend your dining dollars on a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, pastries, and caffeinated beverages. If you need a spot to grab a quick lunch and get some work done, Pret is perfect for you. It has a louder, busier atmosphere, especially near mealtimes, so definitely keep that in mind if you’re sensitive to background noise. <image:title>Articles - Rise & Grind: The Best Coffee Shops Study Spots Around Campus - Best Views: Panera Bread</image:title>
<image:caption>A classic breakfast, lunch, or coffee place, Panera Bread has something for every mood. If you’re craving sweet, they offer plenty of delicious pastries and desserts. For savory, their sandwiches are a fan favorite. For some comfort food, I recommend their mac and cheese or one of their hearty soups. For something lighter, they offer a wide selection of salads as well. Personally, I can never pick just one, so the You-Pick-Two option is perfect. My favorite part about this study spot is the upstairs area, where you can overlook the street. Overall, great lighting and great eats! <image:title>Articles - Rise & Grind: The Best Coffee Shops Study Spots Around Campus - Most Convenient: Stommons</image:title>
<image:caption>Stommons, or “Starbucks below Commons,” is the most classic Penn coffee shop, and for good reason too. Located conveniently on Locust, with 1920 Commons right above and Gourmet Grocer right next door, Stommons is always a bustling place with lots of students hard at work. It has all the well-loved Starbucks classics, plus the added atmosphere of a large space filled with tables and couches to work on. This is also a great place to meet with study groups, since the noise level is generally moderate here. Plus, they accept dining dollars, so your wallet can relax a bit! Address: Lower level of 1920 Commons Hours: M-Th 8am - 12am Friday 8am - 9pm Saturday 11am - 6pm Sunday 12pm - 12am</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Rise & Grind: The Best Coffee Shops Study Spots Around Campus - Best Seating Options: Joe’s Cafe</image:title>
<image:caption>This is another on-campus coffee spot that takes dining dollars as well! What I like most about Joe’s Cafe is the amount of natural lighting it gets with its floor-to-ceiling windows, especially in the early afternoon. They offer a variety of different seating options as well, and it’s generally pretty quiet so you can really focus. Furthermore, their sandwiches are delicious, especially if you get them toasted. Try their Corned Beef, Salami, Swiss, and Smoked Gouda on Rye panini, or their Caprese Sandwich with pesto aioli and focaccia! They offer scones and other pastries as well. I’d definitely recommend Joe’s as one of the best places to spend your dining dollars! <image:caption>If you’re near the high rises, Saxby’s is conveniently located right at the end of Locust. Saxby’s is a Philly staple, known for their coffee and baked goods. This spot offers plenty of tables and workspaces, along with some jazzy coffee shop tunes. If you like working with some light background chatter and a warm, cozy atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend checking out Saxby’s.
